What is Early Hearing Detection and Intervention?
The Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program detects congenital hearing loss at birth and identifies late-onset hearing loss as soon as possible.
Hearing screening at birth is required for all infants born in North Carolina. Newborn hearing screening tests are performed at birthing hospitals while babies are asleep.
Who is Eligible?
All infants born in North Carolina are screened at birth. All children enrolled in Medicaid should be screened at every well child check-up.
